Patrol Division

Alliance Police Officers on Railroad Tracks

The Alliance Police Department Patrol Division consists of three separate patrol shifts. Each shift is commanded by a Lieutenant and Sergeant.  They supervise approximately seven officers each as well as the on-duty dispatchers and part-time officers/jailers. Each patrol shift Lieutenant reports directly to the Operations Captain.

The Operations Captain makes policy decisions and assigns command officers and patrol officers to particular shifts. Patrol Lieutenants are responsible for the patrol officer assignments, call handling, officer discipline, training, scheduling and citizen compliments and complaints.

Patrol Sergeants report directly to the Lieutenant on their shift.  They assist with officer assignments, call handling, officer discipline, scheduling time off, citizen compliments and complaints, but their primary role is direct supervision of officers taking calls and enforcing laws "on the street".   Although the Lieutenant is present for the shift five days a week, the sergeant is usually in charge of the shift by himself/herself on the weekends.
